Tech Night: Innovation at IVAR Central Treatment Plant

Welcome to Tech Night at IVAR Central Treatment Plant of Nord-Jæren Mekjarvik 10, 4072 Randaberg.

Deep in the mountains at Mekjarvik lies the Central Sewage Treatment Plant of Nord-Jæren, one of the largest and most advanced treatment plants in the country. Every day, the plant receives wastewater from over 300,000 residents in Randaberg, Stavanger, Sola, Sandnes, and Gjesdal municipalities. Operational since 1992, the facility has undergone a significant investment of 570 million since 2013 to upgrade it for rapid population growth, new regulatory requirements, and enhanced safety and emergency preparedness standards. The new treatment plant was completed in the fall of 2018. The wastewater from the region travels through an 8 km tunnel from Bjergsted to Mekjarvik, where it undergoes fascinating processes.

• Biogass
• Fertilizer
