An ocean of opportunities
Ocean plastic pollution is a fast growing problem. Every year, more than eight million tons of plastic enter our oceans. The plastic pollution is a threat to human health, wildlife and the planet. Most of the plastic is washed into the ocean by rivers in Asia with a high population living in the surrounding region – and with little or no waste management systems.
Long tradition
The NRK Telethon has run every year since 1974. Every autumn this nationwide charity campaign raises money for a chosen cause.
This year’s Telethon is happening the 18th of October. TV-aksjonen 2020 will tackle plastic pollution at the source by establishing and improving waste management systems for more than 900 000 people living in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and The Philippines.
In keeping with tradition, Rogaland’s business community will once again be taking part this year. On Wednesday, 14th. October, voluntary callers from various municipalities and business sectors of Rogaland will join forces at Stavanger’s Concert Hall to call upon the general public for donations to this year’s NRK TV Campaign. Other telethons will be conducted simultaneously in Haugesund, Egersund and Vindafjord. Last year, a total of over NOK 5.3 million was raised by just under 800 companies.
You can contribute
Normally 100 000 people all over Norway to go door-to-door in their neighborhoods, asking for donations. However, this year, due to the Covid-19 situation, the donations will be collected digitally. Sign up as an digital contributor HERE.
