Car-free city centre?

Car-free city centre?

It´s a challenging time for the retail industry, and new political plans to make Stavanger city centre car-free will worsen the situation.

Many shop owners fear that road closures and one-way streets will affect the retail trade negatively. Potentially Olav V gate, Kongsgaten, Breigata and Kirkegata north risk being closed.

The suggested one-way streets are Lars Hertervigs gate and Vågen. A trial period of one year is suggested to test the project. This means limited access to the carparks located in the city centre. After examining some 40 annual reports, Rosenkilden found negative figures in 47% of the shops in the city centre in 2018.
