In charge of Norwegian oil resources
With the start of a new decade in this oil producing nation, reflection is essential. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate was established in 1972, and Sølvberg is the fourth Director general to be appointed. This shows that her predecessors thrived in their roles and they left a solid legacy.
The first Director general, Fredrik Hagemann, had his role extended by seven years while waiting for his replacement Gunnar Berge to end his role as Minister of labour and social affairs. That happened in 1996. Berge held the Director general position until 2007, when the Petroleum Directorate appointed Bente Nyland to the role, as the first female Director general. She held the position for two terms, until Sølvberg was appointed.
